Betty Cuzzupe (nee Simcox)

Betty made sure to keep having fun when she grew older, because if she stopped having fun she might grow old. Her ways always appeared so proper, yet she was anything but prudish…if you told her an off-color joke, she would find the humor in it. While shows like “Mike & Molly” brought her some big laughs, she was more likely to read a book than watch TV. Betty always had a social side, the Societa’ Bell’Italia club formed in 2003 would see her as Treasurer for eight years. Where she had the best of times, though, was always with her family. Along with her late husband, Grant, she was known to light up any dance floor. As a couple, the two traveled whenever possible, taking in the Grand Canyon, Switzerland, Austria, England as well as many trips to Italy. She would later share these adventures with her grandchildren, taking them to Disney, camping, the shore and all over Philadelphia. Perhaps that’s why they stayed all summer at mom-mom’s.

Unbeknownst to the Burlington City High School Class of 1947, the photographer used their class portraits as examples at other schools. A senior at Riverside High, named Grant Cuzzupe saw Betty’s photo and instantly fell in love with the girl in the picture. The photographer would not give him the girl’s name, but fate intervened. At a local dance he spotted the young woman, and by 1951 the two were wed. Together, they made their home in Riverside, and then Beverly and finally in Burlington. Before his passing in 2002, their lives were blessed by their children: Michael (Janice), of N.C., Lynn Petz (Neil) of Springfield Twp, NJ and Marc (JoAnn Patti) of PA and again by their grandchildren: Carolyn Cuzzupe, Danette Thomas (Darrell), Marc Cuzzupe (Hannah) and Jeffrey Petz. Betty is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Lauren, Ava, Sophia, Charlotte, Killian, Dylan, William, Matthew, Mattison and Colin, her sister, Francine Brown as well as by many nieces and nephews.
