Catherine Baker

Catherine Baker

As a young girl Catherine played field hockey and basketball which set her up for life to be physically active pushing as she aged to walk, still enjoying the outdoors. Before going to Friends Village Catherine lived in Swedesboro for 94 years. Her family name was Passwater and she had 7 siblings. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church serving on the Board of Trustees. At Church and the Swedesboro Municipal Office she could always be counted on to pick up any job and help out. Things didn’t always go according to her plans but with her strong personality and self sufficient ways Catherine made do. Friends drove her wherever she needed to go and went grocery shopping for her, maybe cause her thank you was always lit up with big smiles. Nurses and aides at Friends Village were taken with her wit and one liners. In her younger days she was employed by Anchor Glass Co. in Salem as a control operator.
She was pre deceased by her husband, Gene and is survived by two daughters, Barbara Kessler and Jean Kay Kondress, two grandsons, Glenn Kessler and Blake Kondress , two great grandchildren, her caretaker, niece, and best friend, Charlene LaRosa. And her grocery bearing “boyfriend” Ed Dupper.
Come celebrate her 99 feisty years Friday from 9:30am at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro where the service will be at 11am. Burial Lake Park Cemetery.
