Ludmila Darmo (nee Belova)

Ludmila Darmo lived the American dream and lived it her way. As a teenage immigrant fleeing war-torn Europe, she overcame a difficult past, as well as language and cultural barriers in the US. Settling in Philadelphia, not only did she excel academically, she was one of two high school students of 400 to earn a full nursing scholarship to Pennsylvania Hospital. A woman of many talents and interests, she met her husband Tom in a drafting class; architectural design remained a lifelong interest and hobby. She and Tom soon moved to southern Jersey, where she raised four children, worked many decades as a critical care nurse and gardened to her heart’s content. Her life was devoted to her family. She was the most gracious and giving person, gladly sacrificing all for her children’s best interests. When she was diagnosed with a terminal illness in 2009, she never let her condition limit her dreams or her ability to live her life to the fullest. From traveling to California, planning the Darmo farming business, expanding her extensive and beautiful gardens, enjoying her pet canaries, or visiting her daughter in North Carolina, Ludmila truly lived her life to the fullest. Ludmila is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Darmo, Jr., her children Lisa Darmo (Bill), Vera Darmo (Chang Fu), Thomas Darmo, III (Michelle), and Anthony Darmo (Joann). She is also survived by her 9 beloved grandchildren, TJ, Joey, Christina, Sasha, Ally, Kati, Julia, Morgan and Karyn. rnCome celebrate 77 joyous years (May 18, 1935-February 14, 2013) Saturday from 9:00 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home 337 Bridgeboro St., Riverside, Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson. rn –
